Target Audience
Delegates with some experience in auditing, junior auditors or professionals working in other departments
(Compliance Units, External Auditors, Members of the Board, Audit Committee members, Security Professionals,
Risk Management, Line and Senior Managers, Team Leaders) looking to develop a focused and best practices
approach and techniques to the internal audit function, internal audit supervisors and managers who are
interested in updating, upgrading and refreshing their knowledge in internal audit.
Primary objectives
Internal Audit is a modern assessment tool that provides a reliable indicator of the integrity of the System of
Internal Controls and the companies’ processes, and their ability to support their goals. Internal Audit helps
companies to identify problems, risks, good practices and opportunities that would best serve their goals.
The information obtained from well-conducted audits is an “asset” of the companies that far exceeds the
modest investment in time, training and other costs associated with audits. The way an organization values
and uses this “asset” depends on the quality of the audits. Therefore, Executive Management and Audit
Committees, through visible support and resource allocation, have the primary responsibility for ensuring the
effectiveness of the Internal Audit function.
Every successful audit is based on an integrated design under an atmosphere of constructive engagement
and communication between the auditee and the auditor. Although each audit project is unique, the audit
process is similar for most projects and generally consists of four phases: planning (also called research or
preliminary review), on-site work, audit report and follow-up.
Internal Auditors today are called upon to deal with an environment with different risks and commensurate
with the new challenges that businesses constantly face. That is why they should operate through a series
of actions based on an internationally recognized methodology and always based on current and recognized
good practices.
This methodology refers to the International Standards on Internal Auditing (Standards for the Professional
Practice of Internal Auditing) developed by the International Institute of Internal Auditors and recognized as
a point of reference in the legislation of many countries. Internal Auditors must know the methodology that
will make their work reliable and effective, while with the appropriate tools and techniques that they must
apply, must constantly add value to their organization.
The methodology refers to the definition and calibration of the objectives of the units or departments under
audit, to the definition of specific risks that threaten their objectives, to the definition of substantial
documentation that will prove the audit findings and the deviations from the provisions, in the methodology
of collecting the documentation that will prove the deviations, in the development of the findings that will
emerge and in the written formulation of the findings through the internal audit report.
Knowledge of the official audit methodology, in combination with the best applied techniques, lead the audits
to the desired results, as they make them acceptable to the auditees, understood by Executive Management
and finally very useful.
