Meeting with the President of DIPA

A meeting took place on Thursday April 22nd 2021, between the President of IIA Cyprus Mrs. Anna Zavou Christoforou and Board Members Mrs. Polina Antoniou and Mr. Rovertos Yiousellis with Mr. Marios Garoyian, President of DIPA Political Party (‘Democratic Front’) at the party’s headquarters in Nicosia. The meeting was requested in the course of our Institute’s strategic initiatives to establish direct communication lines with all major local Political and Legislative stakeholders , in order to promote the importance of Internal Audit in the Public Sector Governance structure. It was acknowledged by all attendees that the enhancement of the internal control environment and the reinforcement of Governance related pillars, including Internal Audit, in the Public Sector, is not an option but rather a necessity, given the recent inefficiencies identified in the Public Sector control framework. There was a productive and insightful discussion, where practical suggestions were made by our delegation, including ways to best implement them, and how our Institute and its members can participate and add value in this process. A memorandum with our Institute’s positions was handed over to Mr. Garoyian for further review, while a more detailed paper will follow in order to assist all relevant stakeholders in making the right future decisions and taking the necessary actions in this area.
